For the first time ever, I ordered a dress from Igigi. Truth be told I have never been a fan of Igigi.

The styles introduced at Igigi over the past year or so have really caused me to second guess my previous sentiment. I used to think the clothing line was a bit tacky and very typical but this year my opinion has changed … even though I’m not head over heels in love with everything Igigi has to offer, there are a few pieces I can see myself in.

So let me continue by saying this:

Igigi is ON POINT when it comes to GREAT CUSTOMER SERVICE.

The site was very easy to use and I received my merchandise super quick. If memory serves me correctly I placed my order on the 8th of October and on the 9th of October it was shipped even though there was a holiday around the same time I swear the package came in like 3 – 4 days, I was shocked!! Professionally packed and hung on a hanger I was really excited to try my new dress on.

So of course I ordered the Lola Asymmetrical Dress in Fuchsia … I couldn’t resist, my name and favourite colour all wrapped up in one dress. I had to make it mine!! Unfortunately it didn’t fit, it was too big, the sizing at Igigi is definitely generous. I order a 18/20 but I guess I need a 14/16. I didn’t like the look of the fabric at first but I did like the overall look of the dress once I tried it on. I must say I’m IMPRESSED. Igigi does make a truly well crafted good quality product. I will definitely buy from them again and I suggest you try them out as well if you haven’t done so already.

Although I’m sad that I had to send my dress back I’m very happy that I will be getting a new one very soon and that I’ll be able to share a picture if me in the dress with all of you. Stay Tuned for pics coming shortly!!

If the Igigi Faries are listening, please take note of my order. Lola would Love the following items:

Veronique Dress in Berry

Gemina Dress in Fuchsia

Valerie Bubble Dress

Ladies you’d be surprised to know what happens when you ask the faires for things. Sometimes things really do come true!!

Smooches

Further to the other week’s post about Faith 21 finally arriving in Toronto, I was able to make my way over to Fairview Mall. I was so excited about the new collection I didn’t even stop to see what else was in store (except for one accessory that caught my eye in the display window that I actually had the visual display person take off the manaquin’s wrist … because there were no there one’s in the store).

The section desginated for the Faith 21 line was really small and there was hardly anything to choose from. There may have been a 12 styles in total. I knew it wouldn’t be enormous but MAN I didn’t expect it to be that small!! I saw the dress I wanted and immediately headed to the dressing room. I tried it on and just as suspected the dress was short infact it was super short it stopped basically under my butt.

The Faith 21 line is not a real plus size line it’s really a JOKE. The sizing is really small the 2X is suppose to be a 15/16 according to the size chart. So I ended up buying 2 dresses as I thought and I visited my local stitch it to have them sewn together,. I thinking about making a bustier top out of the remaining other half.

Stay Tuned for outfit shots … still waiting for my girl Q to upload the pics from her birthday party….

What does fashion mean to you? Fashion to me means taking a trend and making it your own. The way you dress for any occasion expresses your individuality and presentation is essential in how you feel from day to day. It conveys attention to detail and pride in yourself and what you do. Being fashionable doesn’t have to break the bank; women can feel and look great by understanding and applying these tips:

Know how to dress for your body shape (some styles are more flattering than others for certain shapes); we can help women identify their shape and pick the most figure flattering cuts (our website has “browse by shape” functionality)

Shop smart: pick up staple items that are timeless (i.e. little black dress, great jeans, classy sweater, club tops) when you have lots of time or when they are on sale – do not wait till the last minute as your selection will be limited and satisfaction diminished

Accessorize – like many fashion experts have stated over time, accessories make the outfit. Pick up great belts, jewellery, shoes, scarves and shawls when you see ones that you love. And be adventurous with colour; express your moods and personality

Smooth out your shape: if you are comfortable in shape wear, whichever brand you prefer, have a few on hand in different colours. They bring you down a size or two, smooth out your shape and some even help with your posture.

5 Must Haves?

Confidence and self-esteem – if you feel gorgeous, you are!

A classic wrap dress (the wrap detail conceals certain problem areas)

Classy and sassy club/social tops

Great stretch black pants

Thick oversized stretch belts and good, comfortable shape wear.

Favourite Clothing Designers? While I admire the innovation and risk that designers take, I like a lot of unknown designers because a great garment is a great garment no matter who makes it and its high time plus size fashions are affordable.

Style Icons? Myself! I think we should all follow our instincts and be brave combined with some expert tips, like those listed above.

Favourite clothing/jewellery stores/catalogs/websites? 3 favs:

Curvacious.ca – organisers of much needed plus sized events in the GTA

Curvaceous Consignments - specialty consignment boutique catering to women sizes 14+

Bellesplus - an international directory serving the plus size community

Describe the path that has lead you to where you are in your career right now? I always wanted to start my own business so that my creativity could be used to its full extent and ironically I was laid off from a 10 year marketing management job in November 2008. So I registered the business, used government resources to find information for starting a small business and flew to New York in July 2009 to find wholesalers who carried the styles at the prices I wanted. I have continued to grow from there, learning new ways to keep costs low so that I may in turn keep my fashions affordable for customers.

What advice do you have for other women who would like to follow in your footsteps? Consult Enterprise Toronto – a great resource for new business owners including free seminars, statistical research, forms and friendly service. Also, NETWORK (verb) – it’s like traditional advertising on steroids.

So what can expect from you next? As we grow, SexyPlus will carry a greater selection of sizes (4, 5, 6X), and we host monthly open house fashion parties where ladies can shop in a comfortable environment without pressure. Our website is almost ready (counting down the days) and we will ship internationally.

We are celebrating the website launch with the Curvacious.ca ladies on October 17th. Details here.

How are you shaping the plus size community? Women should feel and look great no matter what their size and they need to learn to focus on their assets like their beautiful faces, curves, hips, breasts, femininity and personality. I stand behind these words as I posed for an episode of ‘How To Look Good Naked Canada” in my underwear which will be aired in February.

Ladies Stefanie has been gracious enough to offer an exclusive discount to all Style Vanguard readers for her upcoming event. Please stop by and check her out in person or online at www.sexyplusclothing.com . Print this coupon or let her know that Lola from SV sent you. Happy Shopping!!
